Ecommerce market size in India -- trends and projections

It is expected that e-Commerce market in India willreach INR 9,210 crore by the end of the financialyear, 2007-08. e-Commerce had an estimated market ofINR 7,080 crore at the end of 2006-07. According to the research conducted by Internet andMobile Association of India (IAMAI) and Indian MarketResearch Bureau (IMRB), it is expected that e-commercemarket will grow at an average rate of 30 per cent in2007-08. This would be followed by Online Classifieds,which is projected to reach INR 820 crore. OnlineRetailing stood at INR 850 crore in the year 2006-07and is expected to be a INR 1,105 crore industry atthe end of 2007-08. The recent growth in malls andhypermarkets shows the growth of e-Commerce. Accordingto the study, the three major triggers of e-Commercein India were saving of time, convenience associatedwith shopping at home and the availability of a rangeof products. Moving ahead, e-Commerce will be accessedthrough mobile phones rather than PCs.
